Ashiana Children’s Home

Objective

To provide a safe environment to girl children residing in Ashiana through a concept of ‘home away from home’, prepare them for life and nurture them as responsible citizens of society.

Ashiana Children’s Home was established in 1982 under the able guidance of Dr M C Mamgain. She literally acted as a mother to all the children who came to stay here. The Home caters to the emotional and material needs of children who do not have support in the society. Basically the children are from families below poverty line or those who have been abandoned by their parents or have lost their parents or are from single parent families who need care and protection. Majority of these children come to Ashiana after going through severe trauma and emotional stress and have no family support.

Children from 5 to 10 years of age are admitted. As per the recent directions of the Government of Haryana only girls can be admitted. District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of Haryana recommends the children to be admitted and DWCD sponsors them . Ordinarily, the children are kept in the Home till the age of 18 years. However, management can, in the interest of a child, allow him/her to stay till attainment of age of 21.

Ashiana looks after holistic development of children including boarding, lodging, education, medical, health – both physical and psychological – through meditative chanting, yoga, music, theater, dance, and elocution etc. All children learn and chant Bhagvad Gita and Mantras daily in prayer sessions.
